Although Jeep suggested otherwise with the arrival of the all-new Compass SUV, the Patriot name won’t be totally dismissed. No, the car manufacturer will reportedly bring back the nameplate sometime next year. However, that’s not going to be an all-new model, but just some kind of special edition. Judging by the latest rumors, aside from engine the 2018 Jeep Patriot will share most of the things with its sibling. Yes, the new SUV will bring more power under the hood. However, this is going to cost you some extra money.
2018 Jeep Patriot: Engine and Transmission
Today’s Compass is a good option for those who don’t care about power. The SUV offers two fuel-efficient engines. However, you won’t get excited with 158-horsepower strong 2.0-liter inline-4 or with 2.4-liter 4-cylinder that’s rated at 172 hp. That’s because the car manufacturer is reconsidering the 2018 Patriot sibling that’s going to work with an all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. Yes, it’s so-called Hurricane gasoline unit and yes, it will be able to deliver around 300 horsepower. The engine won’t use a six-speed gearbox of course. Instead, it will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Exterior and Interior Changes
Even though it will be essentially the same vehicle as the Compass, the 2018 Jeep patriot might feature a bit redesigned exterior and interior styling. Dimensions and shape will stay exactly the same, but there will be a few new details here and there. The carmaker will most likely add a bit more massive front bumper, which will also feature larger air intakes. That seems pretty logical because the compact crossover needs to cool-off the mighty engine. In the front, the high-riding vehicle will feature a different exhaust pipe layout, while everything else stays untouched.
It’s pretty much the same story inside. Except, the topping 2018 Patriot SUV might get a bit more upscale treatment. The manufacturer could add two-tone leather upholstery and softer materials all around the cab. Of course, since it should be the more expensive option than the best available Compass, the 2018 Jeep Patriot needs to have better equipment as well. That also includes the latest infotainment system with an 8.4-inch touchscreen.
Estimated Price and Arrival
If everything goes according to plan, the 2018 Jeep Patriot will be introduced early next year, most likely at the 2018 Detroit auto show. The awesome small SUV will be a more expensive option than the Compass for sure. However, it should cost around $30K.
