The next generation Fiat Freemont is getting ready to be introduced. More precisely, the crossover should be ready before the end of the next year. Even though we haven’t seen the prototype so far, the latest reports suggest what’s coming. According to them, the 2019 Fiat Freemont will largely resemble the all-new Jeep Compass.
2019 Fiat Freemont: Design and Technologies
If this turns out to be true, the Italian carmaker could finally offer a proper crossover. Fiat’s high-riding compact vehicle won’t look exactly like the sibling from Jeep of course, but the smooth profile and dynamic will do the job for sure. In the front, the 2019 Freemont will get some Fiat’s latest styling cues. The carmaker might add a mesh grille and pretty aggressive headlights, while the rear end might get a Sportback design.
Aside it’s going to have pretty much the same silhouette as the Jeep Compass, the 2019 Fiat Freemont will also ride on the same platform. It’s so-called small-wide 4×4 architecture, which basically underpins most of the compact models across a total Fiat-Chrysler group.
The interior, on the other hand, will be totally Fiat-based. More precisely, the crossover will get a 500X’s 5.0-inch Uconnect system or even a 6.5-inch infotainment display for more expensive trims. Speaking of which, the topper will definitely host a number of useful extras such as heated seats and steering wheel, automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning and assist.
The new generation Freemont SUV is going to share a powertrain with the Jeep Compass as well. The crossover will likely use a 2.4-liter four capable to deliver 180 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. Though, the base model will use something just a bit less potent, yet with a better twist. It’s going to be a 1.4-liter inline-four turbocharged unit, which is currently capable to deliver 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. No matter which option the potential buyer pick it will be able to choose between a 6-speed manual and a nine-speed automatic transmission. Even though some reports indicate that there might be a diesel unit offered, we highly doubt that possibility.
We have no idea will the 2019 Fiat Freemont come in North America or not. Still, we do know that the base version of the crossover won’t cost more from $20K.
