Despite various reports and rumors that claim the 2018 Jeep Compass, Patriot replacement is getting a new name, we think otherwise. According to our sources, the car manufacturer decided to keep one of those names, so it will be either the all-new Jeep Compass or the all-new Patriot SUV. These are the official words of Jeep’s CEO Mike Manley, so yes we are sure about it. Moreover, he said that there will be no delay of the vehicle, so the popular C-SUV will be introduced at the upcoming 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show.
2018 Jeep Compass, Patriot Replacement: Exterior and Interior Redesign
Now, the actual bodywork of the compact SUV is still a big mystery, but since we saw a bunch of spy shots, we can anticipate what’s cooking. Judging by the spy, the 2018 Jeep Compass, Patriot replacement will largely change its previous habits, so instead of the previous a bit rugged and boxy design, the SUV is becoming a car-like soft-roader. The front end layout sports more aggressive lines, while the roof gets a popular sloping style. What’s very interesting, but not so good, is the clear influence of the bigger Grand Cherokee. The large sibling is very handsome and pretty amazing vehicle, but that does not mean that we want it new smaller version. After all, there is also the Cherokee SUV, which clearly reminds on the “Grand” brother. However, the upcoming crossover will definitely have the unique rear end styling. The carmaker has turned on the imagination the all-new rear hatch, which seems pretty interesting.
The interior layout is another story, at least we think so. We spied just a part of it but our first impression is that the cab might be really interesting and revolutionary. In place of a awful inside styling of the previous model, the manufacturer will place some amazing stuff. The cab gets more premium materials and quite big infotainment display, which will be a standard option this time. There is also a new steering wheel with a number of buttons, so the SUV should be rather functional, at least more functional than earlier.
There Will Be Three Engine Options
The 2018 Jeep Compass, Patriot replacement won’t get its special architecture. The carmaker will build this compact SUV on the existing Small Wide 4×4 platform that already underpin the current Renegade. As for the options under the hood – well, the manufacturer is still silent, but we can bet on the upgraded 2.4-liter engine, and possibly a 2.0-liter turbo, which will power the base model. Speaking of trims, there is a big possibility of the range-topping Trailhawk trim level that is going to use an all-new Hurricane mill with 300 horsepower. In any case, the units will be paired to a standard six-speed manual and optional nine-speed auto gearbox.
Jeep hasn’t said anything regarding the price of the Compass, Patriot replacement, but we are pretty sure that the completely redesigned crossover won’t cost over $20,000. Moreover, the vehicle might start below that. Still, the Trailhawk model will likely go over $25K.
As for the name, we bet on the Compass. And what to you think about it?
